Being a Royal Guard

We are volunteers that honestly portrays the Guards to the Royal Family in circa 1672 Spain. This time period was during the building of Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, Florida

Royal Guard

The duty of the Spanish royal guards during the 17th century was primarily to protect the Spanish monarch and the royal family, as well as important royal residences, such as palaces and fortresses. These guards were tasked with maintaining security and order within the royal court and its vicinity.
In addition to providing physical protection, the royal guards often served as a symbol of the monarchy's authority and power. They were expected to display discipline, loyalty, and professionalism at all times, as they represented the prestige and dignity of the Spanish crown.
Furthermore, the royal guards played a ceremonial role in various state events, such as royal processions, official receptions, and diplomatic ceremonies. Their impeccable uniforms and strict adherence to protocol added to the grandeur and majesty of such occasions, reinforcing the image of the Spanish monarchy as a formidable and respected institution.
Overall, the duty of the 17th-century Spanish royal guards encompassed a combination of protective, ceremonial, and symbolic functions, all aimed at safeguarding the monarchy and upholding its status and authority.
